5.3.2. Removal, installation and check of serviceability of functioning of the thermostat

Do not open a cover of a radiator and do not remove the thermostat before full cooling of the engine!

Petrol models

Models with the SOHC engine

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.
  2. Empty the cooling system (address the Head Nastroyki and routine maintenance of the car).

If you are not going to fill in new liquid in system, keep merged for the subsequent use.

  1. Remove assembly of the air cleaner with air ducts (see the Head of the Power supply system, release and decrease in toxicity of the fulfilled gases).
  2. Weaken fixing collars and disconnect the top hose of a radiator from a cover of the thermostat installed on the right on a head of cylinders.
  3. Uncover the GRM case, a GRM drive belt with an intermediate roller, a cogwheel of the camshaft and a back cover of the GRM drive.
  4. Remove OZh hose from the thermostat case, turn out fixing bolts and uncover the thermostat. The thermostat is sideways at a head of cylinders, under a camshaft cogwheel.

  1. Take the thermostat from the case, remove a sealing ring, - try to remember the adjusting provision of components.

Models with the DOHC engine

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery (see the Head Sistemy of electric equipment of the engine).
  2. Empty the cooling system (address the Head Nastroyki and routine maintenance of the car).

If you are not going to fill in new liquid in system, keep the merged liquid for the subsequent use.

  1. On engines 1.0 and 1.2 of l remove an air inlet sleeve. Establish capacity under a thermostat cover branch pipe.
  2. Weaken fixing collars and disconnect the top hose of a radiator from a thermostat cover.
  3. Turn out fixing bolts and remove the case together with the thermostat which is built in it. On engines 1.4 and 1.6 of l remove a sealing ring.

Diesel models

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove the rechargeable battery with a basic arm (see the Head Sistemy of electric equipment of the engine).
  2. Cock the parking brake, the car and establish to a poddomkratta it on props. At the corresponding complete set remove protection of a case.
  3. Empty the cooling system (address the Head Nastroyki and routine maintenance of the car).

If you are not going to fill in new liquid in system, keep merged for the subsequent use.

  1. Weaken fixing collars and disconnect the top hose of a radiator from a cover of the thermostat installed on a head of cylinders.
  2. Turn out fixing bolts and uncover the thermostat the case.

  1. Take the thermostat valve from the case and remove a sealing ring.

Check

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Before finally being approved in opinion on a thermostat exit out of operation, check the level of cooling liquid in system, a state and effort of a tension of a driving belt (see the Head Nastroyki and routine maintenance of the car), and also serviceability of functioning of the measuring instrument of temperature.
  2. One of the possible reasons of too slow warming up of the engine (according to indications of the measuring instrument) is jamming of the thermostat in open situation. Replace the thermostat new.
  3. In case of an overheat of the engine touch the top hose of a radiator. If the hose is not heated, perhaps, the thermostat is jammed in a closed position, blocking circulation of cooling liquid through a radiator. Replace the thermostat.

Do not operate the car with the removed thermostat at all! At the same time feedback of the onboard processor can be broken that will lead to increase in toxicity of the fulfilled gases and excessive increase in fuel consumption.

  1. If the top hose is heated, it means that cooling liquid regularly circulates through a radiator, i.e. the thermostat is open. Address materials of the Section Diagnostics of Malfunctions.
  2. The most exact results are yielded by check of the thermostat on a workbench.
  3. Remove the thermostat from the engine (see the Head Dvigateli).
  4. Tie up a piece of a wire to assembly of the thermostat and lower it in the capacity filled with water There lower the thermometer.

Check of serviceability of functioning of the thermostat

Track that the thermometer and the thermostat did not adjoin to walls and a bottom of capacity!

  1. Begin to warm up slowly water, monitoring change of indications of the thermometer, - operation of the valve of the thermostat has to happen in strict accordance with requirements of Specifications in the Head of the Cooling system of the engine, heating of salon and air conditioning.
  2. Estimate the size of full opening of the valve, - the nominal rate makes b - and = 8 mm.

Installation

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Installation is carried out in the return sequence. Pay attention to the next moments the following.
    1. Carefully smooth out the interfaced surfaces and replace sealing elements;
    2. Place the thermostat in a casing, it is correct it having oriented;
    3. With the required effort tighten bolts of fastening of a cover;
    4. Restore initial connection of all hoses and an electrical wiring (where it is required, install into place the removed sensors);
    5. Fill in cooling liquid in system (address the Head Nastroyki and routine maintenance of the car);
    6. Start the engine, warm up up to the working temperature and be convinced of lack of leaks.
