8.1. General information
The manual boxes of transfer used on the considered models of the Opel Corsa/Tigra cars have a 5-staged design with full synchronization. Number of transmission is beaten out from above on a box case.
The case of transmission is made by a casting method of aluminum alloy, and fastens bolts to the left side of the engine. The box of gear shifting and differential (the main transfer) is a part of RKPP actually.
The torque developed by the engine through a frictional clutch plate is transferred to the pin equipped with vents rotating in the closed ball bearings of main shaft RKPP. From a main shaft rotation is transferred to an output (secondary) shaft which right pin is fixed in the roller bearing, and left - in closed ball. From an output shaft rotation is transferred to a koronchaty cogwheel (the conducted gear wheel) of the main transfer and the assembly of differential which is rigidly jointed with it providing a possibility of rotation of driving wheels in various with angular speed what allows to avoid excessive wear of protectors during commission of turns.
Primary and secondary shaft of RKPP are located parallel to axes cranked and power shafts in such a way that their teeths are in continuous gearing. In the provision of neutral transfer of a gear wheel of a secondary shaft are turned on it freely, excepting torque transmission on the conducted gear wheel of the main transfer.
The choice of transfers is carried out by means of the lever of the switching established on a floor of interior of the car and mechanism of the choice of transfers. A draft/cable of the mechanism of the choice of transfers switching forks force to move, providing thereby shift along assembly of a main shaft of the couplings of synchronizers which are with it in continuous gearing. Introduction of the coupling of the synchronizer to gearing with teeths of the corresponding gear wheel on secondary forces a box to provide to a shaft the required transfer relation answering to the chosen transfer. The design of the fingers consisting of brake rings, sprung, gear transfers and the sliding couplings of synchronizers provides to switchings necessary smoothness and noiselessness. The synchronizing cones are formed by the processed surfaces of brake rings and gear wheels.
In view of complexity of a design of RKPP, absence on free sale of necessary replaceable internal components and need of use of the special equipment, authors of the present manual do not recommend to owners of cars to carry out capital repairs of the transmission independently. Repair of a box in the conditions of a workshop of car service is rather expensive operation, and therefore, it is necessary to consider alternative options of replacement of the failed block new or restored. Any useful information on repair and replacement of transmission can be received at car repair shops of the Opel company. Regardless of the chosen way of elimination of problems (repair or replacement), independent dismantle of a box from the car will allow to reduce material inputs significantly.
