11.9. Removal, check of a state and installation of the brake drum

Remember that the dust produced in the course of operation of brake mechanisms may contain extremely unhealthy asbestos of the person. Do not blow off dust compressed air at all and do not inhale it, - at service of mechanisms put on a protective mask or a respirator. Do not use for rubbing of components of the brake system gasoline or solvents on an oil basis at all, - apply only company cleaners or methyl alcohol!

Removal

Turn out bolts of fastening of back wheels, a back of the car and establish to a poddomkratta it on props. Remove back wheels. Release the parking brake. On the Corsa B and Tigra models uncover the screw-driver of a nave. Unbend flat-nose pliers the lock forelock and take out it, give an adjusting nut. Remove the brake drum. At the same time you watch that the press washer and the external bearing did not fall. On the Combo model turn out the lock screw of the brake drum and remove a drum If the drum is strongly linked to the aligning nave fillet, slightly knock on it with the plastic hammer. The bearing of a wheel of the Combo model is in a separate nave whereas on other models considered in the present manual, the wheel bearing is directly in the brake drum. Otdavaniye of the fixing screw of the brake drum If the brake drum is not removed, remove a stopper on a reverse side of a brake board and press the screw-driver the lever of the parking brake so that it adjoined to a wall of the Thanks to brake shoe to it the returnable spring will be able to delay brake shoes and it will be possible to remove the brake drum. Do not blow off dust compressed air at all and do not inhale it, - at service of mechanisms put on a protective mask or a respirator. Do not use for rubbing of components of the brake system gasoline or solvents on an oil basis at all, - apply only company cleaners or methyl alcohol! Check a condition of an internal working surface of the reel, in case of identification of furrows or deep scratches replace drums of both brake mechanisms. Insignificant defects it can be eliminated by a drum pro-point provided that the maximum admissible size of its diameter will not be exceeded.

Both drums are subject to a pro-point on identical depth. Authors of the present manual recommend to make replacement of brake boots after a pro-point of drums.

Installation

On the Corsa B and Tigra models rearrange serviceable bearings of wheels from old brake drums in new (see the Section Removal and installation of brake boots). On the Corsa B and Tigra models install brake drums and adjust a gap of bearings of wheels (see the Section Replacement of Brake Overlays of Drum Brakes). On the Combo model clear a carving opening for the lock screw and if necessary carefully pass it a tap. Grease the lock screw with the fixing sealant, for example, OPEL 1510177. Install the brake drum on a nave so that the opening for the lock screw coincided with an opening in a nave. Screw the lock screw and tighten it with effort of 4 Nanometers. Grease with a thin layer of lubricant the aligning corbels of brake drums. Establish back wheels, lower the car on the earth and tighten bolts of fastening of wheels cross-wise with effort of 110 Nanometers. Press a pedal of a brake about 20 ÷ of 25 times so that any more clicking of the adjusting lever was not heard. It means that brake shoes reached the working position. Adjust the parking brake (see the Section Adjustment of the Drive of the Parking Brake). Check the level of brake fluid in the tank and if necessary, add it to the mark MAX.
