11.5. Replacement of blocks of disk brake mechanisms of forward wheels


In order to avoid withdrawals of the car aside during braking replacement of brake shoes has to be made at the same time on both forward/back brake mechanisms. Remember that the dust produced in the course of operation of brake mechanisms may contain extremely unhealthy asbestos of the person. Do not blow off dust compressed air at all and do not inhale it, - at service of mechanisms put on a protective mask or a respirator. Do not use for rubbing of components of the brake system gasoline or solvents on an oil basis at all, - apply only company cleaners or methyl alcohol!


  1. Cock the parking brake, a front of the car and establish to a poddomkratta it on props. Remove forward wheels.
  2. Disconnect the screw-driver lock brackets from a support of brakes.

  1. Wring out the screw-driver two covers of the directing fingers.
  2. Twist the directing fingers from a bracket.

Brake hose leave attached that then it was not necessary to pump over the brake system.

  1. Remove assembly of a support with internal brake shoes and suspend it on a wire to a depreciation rack. At the same time the brake hose should not be twisted or stretch.
  2. Take out an external brake shoe from a guide.
  3. Wring out an internal brake shoe from the piston. The block is fixed in the piston by means of a lock bracket.

If the removed brake shoes are supposed to be used again, then they should be marked at removal. Shift of blocks by places is not allowed since it can lead to uneven braking. Use the original brake shoes or blocks resolved by Opel. All brake shoes of a forward disk brake are replaced in a set in spite of the fact that be worn-out only one of them can.


Do not press a brake pedal at the removed brake shoes, otherwise the piston can go out of the case.


  1. Clear a soft brush or wipe with the rags moistened in alcohol, the directing surface and a seat of blocks.

Do not apply to this purpose of the solvents containing mineral oils, or the tool with sharp edges

  1. Before installation of blocks check a brake disk for existence of flutes. In the presence of deep flutes give a disk to a pro-point if it still has sufficient thickness.
  2. Measure thickness of a brake disk (see the Section Check of a State, removal and installation of a brake disk).
  3. Check a boot for existence of cracks. Replace the damaged boot.
  4. Wring out the piston by means of the corresponding adaptation It can be made by means of wooden whetstone or the handle of the hammer. At the same time you watch that the piston did not warp, and the surface of the piston and a boot were not damaged.

Push-up of the piston by means of special adaptation

At push-up of the piston brake fluid is squeezed out from the brake cylinder in the tank. You watch that liquid did not pour out from the tank and if necessary pump out it. Remember that brake fluid is poisonous. The flowed-out brake fluid can damage a paint and varnish covering and lead to formation of corrosion.

  1. At strong wear of brake shoes check ease of a piston stroke. For this purpose insert wooden whetstone into a support and ask the assistant to press a brake pedal. The piston has to enter and leave easily. You watch that the piston was not squeezed out completely. At not smooth piston stroke take a support to repare.
  2. Install an internal brake shoe in the piston.

Installation of an internal brake shoe

  1. Insert into the directing external brake shoe.
  2. Insert assembly of a support through a brake disk from above into a guide groove.
  3. Incline assembly of a support down and press it.
  4. Grease the directing fingers with means for the fixing sealant, for example, of Loctite Typ 262 and tighten them with effort of 30 Nanometers.
  5. Establish covers of the directing fingers.
  6. Insert lock brackets into a brake support.
  7. Establish forward wheels so that the tags put at removal coincided. Lower the car on the earth and tighten bolts of fastening of wheels with effort of 110 Nanometers.
  8. Several times strongly press a brake pedal so that resistance was felt. At the same time brake shoes adjoin to a brake disk and take the place.
  9. Check level brake liquid in the tank and if necessary, add liquid to the mark MAX.
  10. Several times slow down the car from the speed of 80 km/h to the speed of 40 km/h soft pressing a brake pedal.

The first 200 km of a run avoid strong braking.
