11:11. Removal, service and installation of wheel cylinders of drum brake mechanisms of back wheels

In case of leak of brake fluid wheel cylinders are subject to replacement without fail. Manufacturers do not recommend to make attempts of carrying out recovery repair of these knots of brake mechanisms.

Removal

Prop up forward wheels antiretractable boots. A car back also establish to Poddomkratta it on props. Remove the brake drum and boots (see the Section Removal, check of a state and installation of the brake drum). Clear the wheel cylinder and surfaces surrounding it of dirt. Uncover the GTTs tank put under it a polyethylene film and screw on the place, - the podkladyvaniye of a film pressurizes landing of a cover and will prevent a liquid effluence at an otpuskaniye of nipple connection of a flexible brake hose. Remove the top coupling spring and part brake boots in the parties, having released them from pistons. Having carefully wiped the union, disconnect the hydraulic line from a back part of the wheel cylinder. In order to avoid a rounding off of shlits of the union use a special cap key with a cutting head. At a detachment do not pull for a metal tube of the brake line in order to avoid its deformation capable it is essential to complicate the procedure of connection. At once to a zakuporta the open end of the brake line for the purpose of minimization of losses of liquid and in order to avoid hit in hydraulic system of dirt. Turn out a bolt of fastening of the wheel cylinder. Remove the wheel cylinder from a brake board and transfer it to a pure workbench.

If on frictional overlays of brake boots there are traces of hydraulic liquid, boots should be replaced, and carefully to smooth out the working surface of the reel.

Service

Carefully wipe the cylinder outside. The design of the wheel cylinder is presented on an accompanying illustration. Remove both boots from the cylinder. In case of need to a zakuporta a face opening of the cylinder a wooden cap push out the piston by giving in the air cylinder through an entrance opening from the foot pump. Attentively study a condition of working surfaces of the cylinder and pistons. In case of detection of obvious defects replace the cylinder. Authors of the present manual recommend to make replacement of cylinders of both brake mechanisms of back wheels at the same time. If the condition of components is recognized as satisfactory, make replacement of sealing cuffs and boots, - the corresponding remnabor can always be found in shops of automobile accessories. Grease new cuffs of pistons with pure brake fluid and a finger fill them in the cylinder, in the middle having put a spring. Lower pistons in pure brake fluid and fill them in the cylinder. Establish new boots and check freedom of the course of pistons.

Installation

Make sure of absoluteness of purity and dryness of the interfaced surfaces of the cylinder and a brake board. Part boots, install the cylinder on the regular place and connect to it the hydraulic line, - yet do not tighten a nipple nut. Screw fixing bolts and strongly tighten them, - now a nipple nut it is possible it is finally tightened. Remove the polyethylene enclosed under a GTTs tank cover. Fill boots in flutes of pistons and establish into place the top coupling spring. Install into place the brake drum (see the Section Removal, check of a state and installation of the brake drum). Pump over the brake system (see the Section Pumping of the Brake System), - it is enough to pump over only that contour which cylinder was removed. Make adjustment of a driving cable of the parking brake. Also establish into place a control lever cover. Before starting operation of the car, make sure of serviceability of functioning of brakes.
